Maintenance instructions for lacquered floors

Your floor has just been treated. With these instructions it stays as beautiful as on the day it was handed over, from the first 24 hours to the yearly maintenance.

The first weeks after the treatment

The finish is especially vulnerable in the first two weeks. How you treat the floor during that time determines how long it stays beautiful.

The first 24 hours
Once the work is finished
Once the work is finished, do not walk on the floor for 24 hours. Depending on the temperature and humidity, drying can take longer. After that you may walk on the floor again, with the utmost care. Ventilate well and set the heating to 22 degrees.
Day 1 to 14
Curing period
In the 14 days after the treatment the finish is still curing. During this period the floor is very vulnerable. Do not walk on it with shoes and make sure it does not come into contact with liquids at all. Put new felt pads under all your furniture. Even furniture with felt pads can cause scratches if you move it during this period.
After 14 days
Cleaning
After the curing period the floor may be cleaned again: vacuuming and mopping are allowed again. Mop with a special cleaner and the two-bucket method, so you always mop with clean water. Mix the cleaning product in a bucket of lukewarm water. A product that does not suit your treatment can damage the finish.
After that
Maintenance
A maintenance product gives the floor an extra protective layer and a fresh look. Was your floor treated with Skylt lacquer or coloured lacquer? Then we recommend the SKYLT maintenance kit. For our standard Unistep lacquer or Unistep Invisible lacquer we recommend the Unistep maintenance kit. The products dry in 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the layer thickness and the climate. The floor can be walked on again as soon as it has dried evenly.
